EP348 & 349 | From Actor to Director: The Leap Behind the Camera

In this special two-part interview, filmmaker Mike Pecci sits down with Ash Adams — an award-winning actor, writer, and director — for a raw, insightful conversation about his journey through the film industry.

Ash shares his evolution from acting in front of the camera to leading projects behind it. In Part 1, the discussion dives into his early days as a working actor in Hollywood, how personal life experiences shaped his creative voice, and the turning points that led him toward writing and directing.

In Part 2, Mike and Ash go deep on the realities of directing. They compare their different backgrounds — Mike coming from a highly visual, technical approach, and Ash from a performance-driven one — and how both perspectives inform leadership on set. They also talk about imposter syndrome, collaborating with crews, and what it really means to maintain your creative identity in a chaotic industry.

About Ash Adams:

Ash Adams wrote, directed, and co-starred in the award-winning feature film Once Fallen, starring Ed Harris, Taraji P. Henson, Peter Weller, and Amy Madigan.
He won Best Documentary at the Roving Eye Festival for The Distance and earned Audience Choice Award at the Malibu International Film Festival for After the Past.
His acting credits include An LA Minute (with Gabriel Byrne) and Gasoline Alley (with Bruce Willis and Luke Wilson).
Ash is currently developing several projects with Patriot Pictures and Ben Stiller’s Red Hour Films, including adaptations of White Cargo, Emerge, and the graphic novel Valentine.

This is essential listening for filmmakers, writers, actors, and creatives navigating their own path — and looking for the tools to push past doubt and claim their voice.
